Recruitment agencies have reported a rise in demand for permanent recruitment in Central London and other cities, according to the latest figures from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG.Its monthly Report on Jobs showed that for January, demand for permanent workers increased for the first time in four months. People working in engineering and construction, as well as IT and offices were the sectors seeking the greatest number of new staff. "This month’s Report on Jobs highlights that there are glimmers of hope for the UK jobs market," commented Kevin Green, the REC's chief executive. "This is the first positive indicator for some time that employers are looking to hire staff despite the on-going weakness of the economy." However, there could still be a lack of suitable candidates, as Mr Green suggested there is a "disconnect" between what employers are looking for in a candidate and what jobseekers can offer.
