Should rewards for people in finance jobs be distributed? PDF Print E-mail
Should rewards for people in finance jobs be distributed?Businesses have been encouraged to distribute bonuses to people in finance jobs in London in order not to alienate parts of the workforce.

According to Mike Ogilvie, managing director at OBC the accountants, bonuses that are handed to managers higher up in a company can alienate people lower down.

"With a leadership you're pulling your team with you behind, and they've got to be able to see that there's transparency and fairness," he said.

"All of the workforce will recognise that the leaders will earn more, but it's a question of 'to what extent?'"

He added that employees may object to bonuses being given at the top if there are no bonuses for performance at the bottom.

"The leadership culture has got to reward the team across the board – not necessarily equally, but if they see there are rewards at the top there should be some sort of opportunity to get rewards at the bottom as well," Mr Ogilvie remarked.

This week Lloyds Banking Group announced that it would adjust a proportion of its bonuses for 13 of its senior employees in response to the PPI mis-selling scandal.
